Lucky Break Mines

The Lucky Break Mine (“Lucky Break”) is situated approximately 95 kilometres north of Clermont on the Gregory Highway and was developed by Ross Mining N.L. between 1987 and 1988. Approximately 90,000 tons of ore were treated at an average grade of 2.4g/t to yield around 7,000ozs of gold.

The mine is a partly back-filled shallow pit to an original maximum depth of 30 metres. The current pit apparently terminated in low grade mineralisation. However, later samples from the pit walls returned grades of between 7 and 28 g/t gold within a breccia host. During the mining operation this breccia material was apparently not recognised as ore material. A composite rock chip sample of this material, collected by Zamia Gold personnel across a 3.5m interval at the northern end of the pit, returned 28.4g/t gold.

Lucky Break has considerable potential for the delineation of further significant economic resources as only the oxidised ore has been mined. Clearly, there is considerable potential for the discovery of further resources and associated mineralisation below the level of oxidation that would support a renewed mining operation.

Nearby gold occurrences at Byjingo and Frankfield Ridge, from which small parcels of ore were extracted for treatment at Lucky Break, offer further opportunity for resource discovery. At the Frankfield Ridge Prospect a fracture zone contains gossanous outcrops within sedimentary strata. Rock chip samples taken from this zone returned up to 2.8 g/t gold, 1.2% copper, 0.3% arsenic and 3.2% bismuth.
